And if you miss love, you miss life. -- Leo Buscaglia FIDONEWS Vol 32 No 26 Page 2 June 29, 2015 ----------------------------------------------------------------- ================================================================= D'Bridge EMAIL System ================================================================= D'Bridge EMAIL System Copyright (c) by Nick J. Andre, Ltd. VERSION 3.99 SERVICE RELEASE 5 - JUNE 21 2015 --------------------------------------------- WARNING: This release deals with the way NETmail messages are processed on your system. If you are a Hub system, you should first test this release in an isolated environment before deploying into your production system. Backup any NETmail messages currently on your system before installing this update. Be prepared to roll-back to SR4 just in case this release does not work for you. This is a very minor update. Of course, what I consider to be minor may in fact be a major fix for you... - The long-standing problem of D'Bridge not being able to process more than a thousand NETmail messages in one toss cycle has been fixed. Gone for good are any any all problems relating to this... maybe some new ones? This has existed for many years. Actually its not so much a problem as it is in the way the mailer was designed to run on IBM XT's at 8 Mhz. Until now, the code that scanned the NETmail messages in *.MSG format used a disk-cache routine index of 1,024 messages. In this version, the cache has been removed entirely. If you are in fact running D'Bridge on a "real DOS" machine, it is recommended to use Microsoft SmartDrive or Norton's Speedcache product. - "Route receipts" is now internally managed. - Specifying a "Blind Request Hub" in Config-Packet/Mail first requires that the entry be first specified in AREAFIX INFO. - There is a new question in Config-Packet/Mail for "Areafix by name". This was added to solve a problem with downlink systems running BBS's where NETmail that is not simply addressed to "SYSOP" does not get processed. Answer YES if you wish to have D'Bridge reply to Areafix requests using the Sysop's nodelisted name or NO if the replies should just be addressed to "SYSOP". The default setting is NO. - Areafix Rescan requests now work the way they should. WARNING: Many Fidonet operators love to make an example out of someone who inadvertently floods the net with a bunch of Rescans or "dupes". Unless you crave negative attention, use due- diligence and common sense when administering your system. DO NOT, under ANY circumstances, use the Areafix Rescanning with ANY BBS software unless you have tested this first in a secluded environment. Some BBS programs may "import" the rescanned messages or manipulate them to send back up the network again... - The logic in NETmail Archive/Sent handling in Config-Packet/Mail has been slightly adjusted and reworded. - NETmail Archive/Sent in DBUTIL should all be fixed now. - The internal editor should no longer mangle kludge lines when copying or forwarding messages under certain conditions. - Various source code cleaned up behind-the-scenes. FIDONEWS Vol 32 No 26 Page 9 June 29, 2015 ----------------------------------------------------------------- ================================================================= I N F O R M A T I O N ================================================================= ================================================================ FIDONEWS INFORMATION ================================================================ FidoNews Article Submission (Updated April, 2015) FidoNews, founded in early 1984, is the newsletter of the FidoNet computer network, for both its Sysops and users. It is passed to its readers electronically via the FidoNet and other computer networks and to non-network readers as well as to the InterNet. Fidonews welcomes articles, editorials, and features of interest to the Fidonet Community. To have your article included in Fidonews, simply send it via netmail to 1:298/25 or 1:1/1 via direct mail with a file attach, or routed with your article in the body of the netmail, or email it at jonathanjustvig@gmail.com Here are some guidelines you can use to help me make it easier to format your article for Fidonews: 1. Use standard ASCII text. Most word processor formats can't be used by the Fidonews software. In addition, the Fidonews software won't accept most ASCII control characters nor any characters above ASCII 127 (this, unfortunately, includes all those neat box drawing characters). 2. Start your lines at the left of your screen when typing. The software puts in a left margin automatically, and I have to manually remove any left margin appearing in your document. 3. Keep your line length to under 70 columns for tables or charts (or if you include an ASCII illustration). Regular paragraphs exceeding this 70 column limit can be reformatted during the editing process, but tables and charts are normally distorted beyond recognition by a simple reformatting. 4. Separate paragraphs with a blank line. This is how my text editor recognizes paragraph endings, so I have to add blank lines manually if you don't. 5. Title your article as you'd like to see it in the Table of Contents. If you don't, I'll make up a title for you, but I'd rather have the article appear as you wish. 6. Include your name and node number (or internet address) under the title. I'll grab it from your message, if necessary... but, again, I'd rather have the article appear as you wish. 7. Check your own spelling and wording. Though I feel free to reformat your article so it conforms to technical requirements, I generally leave the wording (and spelling) alone as I don't want to distort what you have to say. 8. Send your article before Sunday in order to see it in that Monday's edition. Normally I put the newsletter together Saturday Evening and send it out on Sunday evening and I normally check email and netmail before I finalize the edition. So if I get your article before Sunday evening, I'll include it... but send it by Saturday to be safe :) 9. If you're not sure whether you should write or send in your article, I would encourage you to send it anyway. Chances are, if you write of something of interest to yourself, it'll be of interest to others. Besides, Fidonews is a better publication when it's written by a variety of people :) Jon Justvig Fidonews Editor FIDONEWS Vol 32 No 26 Page 10 June 29, 2015 ----------------------------------------------------------------- ================================================================= C R E D I T S ================================================================= Credits, Legal Infomation, Availability + -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- FIDONEWS STAFF - -- -- -- -- -- -- -- + | | | Editor: Jon Justvig, 1:1/1 | | Echomail and File Statistics: Janis Kracht, 1:261/38 | | | + -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- + + -- -- -- -- -- -- -- - EDITORS EMERITI - -- -- -- -- -- -- -- + | | | Tom Jennings, Thom Henderson, Dale Lovell, Vince | | Perriello, Tim Pozar, Sylvia Maxwell, Donald Tees, | | Christopher Baker, Zorch Frezberg, Henk Wolsink, | | Doug Meyers, Warren D.
